In a month (a little less), the 17th Carnet de Voyage gathering opens in Clermont-Ferrand on 18, 19 and 20 November 2016. Every year, on the third weekend of November, Clermont-Ferrand becomes a crossroads where travelling artists from around the world meet. And the connection with photography, you ask? Travel, of course.

The Carnet de Voyage rendezvous

Clermont-Ferrand hosts 4,000 m² of exhibitions for a 3-day journey around the world, with traditional travel sketchbooks, digital sketchbooks, watercolours, photographs, films and talks on the programme. This year's spotlight: the world's metropolises. From New York to Shanghai, via Rio de Janeiro and Paris, sketchbook artists will take you travelling and share their take on these great cities.

The travel sketchbook works to trace travellers' impressions, to cultivate memory, and to keep alive encounters between peoples and cultures. A blend of genres, of text and graphic arts, it becomes a personal creation that aims to bear witness to a journey — or to a whole life.

Among the highlights, note the film by Jean-Paul MARI, who reports on the rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean. A French senior reporter and writer, Jean-Paul Mari boarded the Aquarius for a migrant-rescue operation between the Sicilian and African coasts. He shares his account with a screening of his film Migrants Don't Know How to Swim, followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Bouts du Monde magazine

Among all the exhibitors at the 17th Carnet de Voyage rendezvous, one is an absolute must-see — the (excellent) magazine Bouts du Monde.

Why? Because it's a beautiful magazine, run by a great team committed to producing high-quality work, and because the contributors are all talented enthusiasts. And if you can't go and see them, head to the magazine's website and buy an issue — any one — you won't be disappointed.
