« Five days out from the big Canon / Sony Tuesday, the stage is being set. The World Press Photo tour lands in European capitals, Beijing prepares its P&E Imaging Show, and a Nikon development to watch. »

Two acts this week: we are waiting for next Tuesday's simultaneous Canon / Sony reveal, and in the meantime we are enjoying photography on display all over Europe.
The big Tuesday takes shape
May 13 is shaping up as a pivot day. Canon is preparing an EOS R6 V — the next take on one of its most popular bodies — alongside the RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ, its first Power Zoom L wide-angle. 8 to 10 SKUs in total at Canon that day, accessories and bundles included.
On the other side, Sony is unveiling the A7R VI, the high-resolution flagship expected with a 67 MP partially stacked sensor according to the most credible leaks, and the FE 100-400 f/4.5 GM OSS rounding out the G Master tele line-up. A busy day for pros and advanced amateurs.
Lenses and roadmap
Viltrox is launching its AF 35mm f/1.4 Pro full-frame lens at Beijing's P&E Imaging Show (May 15-18). Sony E mount first, Nikon Z next. It is the brand's third Pro focal after the 50 and 85 f/1.4, and price remains its main angle of attack against Sigma Art and Sony GM.
Nikon, for its part, posted a development announcement for the Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S with a built-in 1.4× teleconverter — a format Canon and Nikon are now actively exploring for sports and reportage work.
Worth seeing: World Press Photo on tour
The World Press Photo 2026 tour went into full swing this week: Bucharest (May 3 – June 3), Rio (May 5 – June 28), Seville (May 6-26), Zurich (May 7 – June 7), Berlin (May 7-31), Rome (May 7 – June 29). A concrete chance to take the pulse of global photojournalism. In Amsterdam, the World Press Photo Days will bring laureates together from May 28 to 30.
On the US side, Photoville opens its inaugural weekend at Brooklyn Bridge Park on May 16-17. One for the calendar.
