The age of reason: Nicolas Beaumont Pictures turns 7

Seven years since the adventure began, seven years on the road. Could this be the annos discretionis referred to at the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215?
It all began on 01/07/2010 with a flight: Paris → Berlin → Moscow. A plane trip, but above all a long train journey afterwards — a 8,500-kilometre journey.

To mark this anniversary, we'll be revisiting that 2010/2011 year regularly throughout July and August.
First half of July 2010
First stop on this long 8,500 km journey: Russia. A fairly classic arrival in Moscow to acclimatise — you don't travel by simply flying somewhere, it's a bit more involved than that. Travelling is a state of mind. So for a first journey, acclimatisation is necessary. After a few days in Moscow, the journey began with a legendary train ride: the Trans-Siberian.
From Moscow to Irkutsk in Siberia: four days by train. Arriving in Irkutsk is stepping into a new world — a first foothold in Asia. A few hours by bus and ferry take you to the middle of Lake Baikal, the world's largest reserve of fresh water, on Olkhon Island (Ольхон), the largest island on the lake.
