Brussels Street Photography Festival

A new project, the Brussels Street Photography Festival (BSPF) describes itself as "a cultural project whose aim is to promote street photography as both an urban research tool, a form of cultural communication, and a visual art."
It's difficult to take a step back from a brand-new event, but the ambition of the Brussels Street Photography Festival is appealing — all the more so for me when I read, on the BSPF website's home page, that line by Robert Capa that has guided my photographic practice for many years: "if your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough."
The festival
Inspired by Brussels's urban environment, the festival's main aim is to showcase the Belgian capital through the eyes of its citizens and international photographers. The festival programme is built around two photography contests (International and Belgian strands). The best submitted images will be shown in an exhibition in Brussels. This event will be paired with various activities such as talks, workshops, panel discussions, photo walks and portfolio reviews — bringing together professional and amateur photographers. The exhibition opening will be at the Ravenstein Gallery, on Friday 28 October 2016 at 6 p.m., and will run until 11 November. Admission is free.
The workshops
Three workshops are organised as part of the Brussels Street Photography Festival:
- A workshop on street photography led by , a member of In-PUBLIC and author of the well-known "".
