Death of photographer Stanley Greene

On 19 May 2017, the American photographer Stanley Greene passed away in Paris, at the age of 68.

One of the great names of war photojournalism has gone today, Stanley Greene. Born in New York in February 1949, an assistant to the American photographer W. Eugene Smith in the 1970s, Stanley Greene began his photographic career in the San Francisco punk scene. He photographed in Africa, the former Soviet Union, Central America, Asia and the Middle East. But it is for his work during the war in Chechnya that he is best known.
He received, among others, the W. Eugene Smith Grant and the World Press Photo award, which he was given five times. He published several books, including Open Wound: Chechnya 1994–2003 with Trolley and Black Passport. A former member of the French agency VU', Stanley Greene was a founding member of Noor agency in 2007.
He passed away at the age of 68, in Paris.
