After a few weeks away (for travel!) we're back — and for this first spring 2017 article, some good news: the Grand Paris Month of Photography.

Since its creation in 1980, the Month of Photography has tracked photography's evolution. François Hébel, former artistic director of Les Rencontres d'Arles and current artistic director of the Grand Paris Month of Photography, sums it up in these words:

Practices have multiplied, new techniques are available, the expertise it receives from cultural operators is beyond comparison, and public enthusiasm is massive.

That is no doubt what explains the current scale of this must-attend event that the Month of Photography has become.

An exceptional programme

For its 2017 edition, the organising committee of the Grand Paris Month of Photography is thinking BIG! Jean-Luc Monterosso and Joël Brard have entrusted François Hébel with the task of organising and coordinating 96 exhibitions across 32 Grand Paris municipalities. From Clichy-sous-Bois to Mantes-la-Jolie, via Châtenay-Malabry or Clairefontaine-en-Yvelines, the exhibitions are spread across the entire Paris metropolitan area.

To encourage visitors to explore the various territories, the Month of Photography has been moved to spring (April 2017) and offers three "Intensive Weekends":

  • North-East — 8 & 9 April 2017
  • South-West — 22 & 23 April 2017
  • Diagonal — 29 & 30 April 2017

During these "Intensive Weekends," photographers and curators are present at their exhibitions, multiplying opportunities for encounters.
