Photo books and reuse

An object of knowledge, an object of inspiration, a beautiful object — a photo book is all three at once. But at Label Emmaüs, it comes from reuse.
Photography is learned, of course, in the field with a camera around your neck — but also through books. Technique books, retrospectives, books for inspiration. New books are not accessible to every budget — and why pay more for a new book when thousands of books are waiting for a second life? The Emmaüs movement contributes to giving objects a second life. Two years ago, the Emmaüs movement gained a new branch: Label Emmaüs. An online shop unlike any other. Here you buy ethically, you buy for less — and, above all, product selection, listing creation, customer service and shipping are handled by local Emmaüs structures, and as a priority by the residents, volunteers and people in work-integration programmes, through a listings and order-management interface they are trained on. By placing the people welcomed and supported at the heart of the project, Label Emmaüs promotes the development of new skills within the movement and the creation of work-integration jobs. And on www.label-emmaus.co, there are photo books! They're here: https://www.label-emmaus.co/fr/catalogue/photographie
A familiar interface, unbeatable prices
Today, 17 March 2018, I spotted three superb books (in line with my personal taste, especially for photojournalism!):
- 150 Years of Press Photography. Volume 1 by Nick Yapp, published by Gründ. You have the choice: €8.87 or €30.18… My tip: go here: https://www.label-emmaus.co/fr/150-ans-de-photos-de-presse-volume-1-nick-yapp-17132782
- Asylum Seekers, "Between Dream and Oblivion" You have the choice between €23 or "item unavailable"… Here it's not even a tip, just go here: https://www.label-emmaus.co/fr/demandeurs-dasile-entre-reve-et-oubli-editions-dart-somogy-2003-17233686
- The Book of Storms aboard the Abeille Flandre, that's €7.05 or €24.30…
But beyond prices, each book is the fruit of the collaboration of several women and men; here we're not talking about a huge warehouse, work cadences, a new Germinal 2.0. Here, in Emmaüs communities, groups and work-integration companies, it is women and men who are doing the work.

If the trade-off of buying ethically is that the selection isn't the same as on fn...com or a..Z.n.com, do as I do: put https://www.label-emmaus.co/fr/catalogue/photographie in your bookmarks and drop in regularly, rather than watching videos of cats falling off fridges.
