SanDisk SDXC: destination 1 TB

The Photokina 2016 opened a few days ago, and photo announcements are pouring in — cameras, camcorders, and also accessories. SanDisk has announced it is working on a 1 TB memory card.
Destination 1 TB
The history of removable storage is dizzying — far gone are the days of 8-inch floppies (launched by IBM in 1967) or the 5.25-inch ones, whose maximum capacity was 1.2 MB. With SanDisk's announcement at Photokina, a new milestone is about to be crossed.
The American manufacturer says it is working on a 1 TB SD card. The goal is to offer a memory card compatible with the latest trends in imaging: 4K or 8K video and 360° video. On top of this record capacity, SanDisk will also have to rise to the transfer-rate challenge.
It is always a real pleasure for us to present the most advanced imaging technologies. Sixteen years ago we launched the first 64 MB SanDisk SD™ card; today we reach 1 TB. Over the years, our goal has stayed the same: to keep innovating and set the tone in imaging. The card falls into the SDXC category, starting at 90 MB/s (V90 standard) with an exFAT file system, in line with the standard.
SDXC cards on the market
While the SDXC standard covers cards from 32 GB to 2 TB, it is only since 2014 that a card has been available. At around €450, it also gives a sense of the price to expect for a 1 TB card. The best-selling SDXC cards offering a good price / capacity ratio are the following: Prices as of 22/09/2016
