Announced since the end of 2019, Canon unveiled its latest high-end DSLR camera at the CES in Las Vegas, the Canon 1D-X Mk III.
A devilish autofocus
No major changes in image quality compared to its predecessor, the EOS 1D-X Mk II, the sensor is still a CMOS of 20 million pixels, 20.1 to be precise. Connectivity is evolving with the native arrival of WiFi and Bluetooth. The gigabit Ethernet port is still present but the USB-3 gives way to a USB-C port.
The big news is the improvement of the autofocus, a dedicated CMOS sensor ensures the focusing thanks to 191 points including 155 in cross. A deep learning algorithm ensures face recognition and in LiveView mode, Eye AF ensures eye recognition.
On the price side, we stay within the usual range of this kind of case. The retail price is 6499 $ for pre-order. The first deliveries are scheduled for February 13, 2020.
4K video in RAW
The video also benefits from significant improvements. RAW recording appears in 5.5K 60p. An evolution which makes it a case of extreme versatility.
Tokyo Olympics games in sight
The arrival of this new camera designed for photo-reporters coincides with the Tokyo Olympic Games which will take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020. The first images from the tests of ambassador photographers highlight the camera’s ability to provide maximum reactivity during sports sequences.
