Pixii : French APS-C Rangefinder Camera

Announced in October 2018, Pixii, the first camera designed and partially manufactured in France for 40 years, can now be ordered on the site of this startup based in Besançon.

Pixii is an exceptional camera in more than one way.

Made in France

First of all, it is a French camera. This sentence alone is amazing!

France has stopped producing cameras for several decades. Pixii is 50% made up of French parts; electronics remains asian. Electronic, because Pixii is a digital camera, well anchored in the 21st century.

It is also a rangefinder device, like the famous Leica. As a reminder, telemetry is a focusing technique that has almost disappeared in favor of autofocus.

Rangefinder system

On the lens side, the Pixii accommodates M and M39 / LTM mount lenses with an adapter.

Highly connected

But Pixii is, above all, a digital camera without a display screen designed to work in tandem with a smartphone.

The best screen is already in your pocket! Your images are transferred almost instantly before you turn on the app.

The camera is connected via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to the photographer’s smartphone. On a dedicated application, he receives the photo he has just taken. He can, then, share it directly on social networks or use it more traditionally in a retouching and enhancement workflow.

On the price side, the Pixii is in a high-end segment, but less expensive than its competitors. It is available from € 2,700, where a single digital body Leica is around € 6,000.
