Cyclone Kenneth is the tenth to form during the 2018-2019 cyclone season in the southwest Indian Ocean. Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, it is the first cyclone of this intensity to touch the Comoros in more than 50 years. On a mission to the island of Anjouan for the French Red Cross, I remained confined for 48 hours in a hotel on the seafront, at the front row to witness the unleashing of the elements. Then I resumed the course of my mission by crossing the island, rediscovering the devastated landscapes and the inhabitants occupied in recovering the wood from the uprooted trees.
