Emergency Medical Service - SAMU 974

June 2014

Each French county has a Medical Urgent Aid Department (SAMU), the island of Reunion, in the middle of the Indian Ocean is obviously not an exception to the rule.

SAMU 974 fulfills the same missions as all SAMU of France. Except that this medical service has developed a particular skill, those of repatriating by air the patients with special medical needs in France. This is the case for patients requiring heavy grafts as transplants heart / lung or liver transplants.

So doctors do not ride in an ambulance but in an airliner which some of the seats are medical.
