When looking for a hardened or rugged suitcase to protect your photo or video equipment, a brand stands out: Pelicase. But there are quite effective alternatives.
Founded in 1976 by Arline Parker and David Parker, Pelican is the American company that builds the famous Pelicase suitcases. The company also offers lighting and temperature control solutions with always the same philosophy: hyper-resistant products.
If you want to protect your equipment, you can buy a pelicase with your eyes closed, and in particular the 1535 which provides a large capacity in a small footprint or the “new” Peli Air range, lighter with the same level of resistance. .
However, alternatives to the Peli brand exist and allow us to keep our equipment safe. Here is a non-exhaustive list. We have deliberately discarded generic or low-cost products whose origin is impossible to know.
Plaber srl / HPRC
The Italian company Plaber builds and markets hardened cases under the HPRC (High Performance Resin Cases) brand. Here too, the quality is undeniable and the purchase can be done with confidence.
The major assets of HPRC cases are the quality and ergonomics of its handles. The brand also markets products specially designed for photo and video equipment.
Also noted, HPRC markets cases specifically designed for tripods: HPRC 6300, HPRC 6400 and HPRC 6500
Vanguard
The Chinese brand Vanguard was created in the 90s in Guangzhou. It manufactures equipment dedicated to photography and video. For a while she marketed suitcases under the name Supreme. Although the company is not specialized in the field of hardened suitcases, the quality is there but on a more restricted range.
Plastica Panaro
Italian brand created in 1962, Plastica Panaro builds and markets a very wide range of hardened suitcases and in particular Max, adapted, among others, to the needs of photographers.
