Thousands of photographs to download

One of the major advances of the digital age is the availability of works of art via the Internet, photography is no exception to this revolution. The museums of the city of Paris offer thousands of images to download.

The Museums of the city of Paris bring together 14 Parisian establishments including the Carnavalet museum on the history of Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Maison de Balzac. On its website ( there are no less than 321,185 works, including several tens of thousands of photographs, most of them under CC0 license (Creative Commons Zero), that is to say in the public domain.

Among the wonders we find a very beautiful collection of the French portrait photographer Nadar.

The images are accompanied by a very well documented notice on the origin and history of the work.

A stroll on the Paris Musées site is an opportunity to discover or rediscover photographers. Certain works, like those of Brassaï are not in the public domain, therefore not downloadable or usable but searchable.
